Elena Markov

This final was a game changer! 32 players were playing in it. It is one of the most liked tennis tournaments in the world. The final was Zverev vs Tsitsipas. It was an intense game. The prize money was 1,053,560. It was a 43% drop compared to last year. The champion will walk away with about 89k. The final game lasted a whopping 2 hours and 19 minutes. Zverev won the tournament by 6-4, 7-6(3). Zverev and Tsitsipas were deadlocked in a tight second set, with only two break points on offer throughout the opening eight games. Tsitsipas saved match point, helped by a double fault by Zverev to break straight back. Tsitsipas put lots of effort to save six break points at 5-5 and held a set point in the following game, but he couldn’t hold back Zverev. The German converted his third match point to seal his first Acapulco singles title! After the match, Zverev put on a Mexican national team shirt and the winner’s traditional blue sombrero, as he lifted Acapulco’s signature silver gourd trophy.
